My Name is Joao Oliveira. I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I attended an American High School in Rio and then moved to the United States to attend college at Columbia University in New York City. Both in Brazil and in NYC I pursued my passion, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I studied with the Gracies and the Clemente's and also learned to fight MMA. My add on striking games are Muay Thai and Boxing. In my country we say "Deve haver honra entre os lutadores, ganhar ou perder, somos sempre estudantes e professores," which means "There must be honor amongst fighters, win or lose, we are always each others students and teachers." I love NYC because it is easy to be openly gay, even at the jiu jitsu school where I teach and train. I love my gay jiu jitsu fighter brothers!
